Homemade Biscuits

We are at the Sparta Hilton and I was cooking on breakfast on the fire.
I decided that I would show how I make home made biscuits so my daughters would have a record of how I do it.
I learned from my Mother and all of my grandmothers including my "Sweet Hunter's" Granny.  I am using my Granny's all purpose bowl to make them in.  She used this pan for everything and so do I.

So here are your ingredients:
2 cups of Self Rising Flour
1/2 cup of shortening or butter
3/4 cup of buttermilk

Start with your flour in a bowl.
Hint: keep your bag of flour out so you can use it to roll or cut your biscuits.

Then add your shortning or butter.  Cut with pastry cutter
or your hands until shortening is cut in like small peas.
Hint: Don't overwork it.

Make a well (hole) in flour and add buttermilk and stir up.
Hint: Don't over stir.

Then lightly grease your pan and roll or cut your biscuits out.
Hint: This is where you will need extra flour to keep dough from sticking on your hands.
Preheat oven to 450 or 500 degrees depending on your oven.
Cook until brown. Approx. 15 minutes.

Yummy!  Homemade Biscuits!
Add butter and homemade apple butter and you can't beat it!

Dixie Stampede's Cream Of Vegetable Soup

1/2 C. frozen peas

1/2 C. whole kernel sweet corn

1/2 C. canned green beans

1/2 C. carrots pealed & grated

1/2 tsp. garlic powder

1/2 tsp. onion powder

Fully cook all vegetables individually and then grind into small pieces. Bring broth, seasonings and vegetables to a boil and then add the whipping cream. Add salt and pepper to taste. I also added a little shredded cheese on top and red pepper flakes!  Yummy.
Maranda sent me this copycat recipe of this soup.  It is so good!!  Hope you enjoy!
