Freshly Squeezed Lemonade


As cool as it was this morning, it turned out to be a very warm day so I thought with our Chicken Tortilla Soup and chips and salsa........Fresh lemonade would taste really good! I was right.


6 lemons squeezed

1 1/2 cups sugar

Approx. 2 quarts of hot water


Stir until dissolved. Add a little cherry juice and a couple of cherries & enjoy!

Mom's Potato Soup & Cornbread

They say this cooler weather is blackberry winter so I thought it would be a good night to make My Mother's Potato Soup!!!

Ora's Chocolate Cake




Ora's Chocolate Cake

2 Cups Sugar
Add 1/2 Cup Shortening
Stir together & add 2 eggs.
Then dissolve 3/4 Cup of cocoa in 1/2 cup boiling water.
Add this to the rest of mixture. Beat well.
Add 1 Cup of milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 Cups SR Flour & 1 tsp. soda, 1/4 tsp of salt.
Stir together. Add to rest of mixture & beat well. Bake 45 minutes @350 degrees.

Icing:
Sift 1 Box Powdered Sugar & add 1 stick Butter, 3 tbsp. of cocoa & 6 tbsp. of milk.
Heat butter, cocoa & Milk & slowly pour over Powdered Sugar. Blend together well to make icing. Pour over cooled cake.
Enjoy!

Moms Potato Yeast Rolls






Today I fixed Barbecue Ribs, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Slaw and Yeast Rolls! This is my moms recipe and they are delicious and easy!


3/4 Cup Creamed Potatoes

3/4 Cup Potato Water

1 Can Evaporated Milk

1 Cup Sugar

1 Cup Shortening (Part butter)

3 Eggs (beaten)

2 Pkgs. Yeast

Enough flour to make a soft dough

Mix together milk, sugar, potatoes, potato water, shorening and eggs. Sprinkle yeast over Mixture. Stir until yeast dissolves. Add enough self rising flour to make a firm, soft dough. Place in a greased container and let rise in warm place for 2 hours. Punch down dough well and place in refrigerator until ready to use. Then remove. Cook as biscuits on a greased cookie sheet. Let rise 30 minutes before cooking.
